Alfonso Bialetti developed and launched the first octagonal moka pot, the Moka Express, in 1933. It was only after the Second World War, in 1945, that Bialetti's son was able to market the pot - with great success. Today, the moka pot is an integral part of many households.

In Italian, the famous moka pot is called a caffettiera or, more commonly, a moka. Moka pots are made in different sizes, indicated by the maximum number of demitasse cups that can be prepared with one filling.

In principle, there are two types of moka pots: manual and electric. The traditional caffettiera is a manual model for brewing on the stovetop and has the characteristic octagonal shape. The classic pots are often made of aluminium, but there is now also a choice of moka pots made of stainless steel that are suitable for induction cookers. In our assortment you will find various espresso pots that will convince you. Buy espresso pots online now only from us!

Moka Pot – features and preparation

An espresso maker always consists of three parts: The lower part is a kettle to be filled with water, the middle part is the funnel insert for the ground coffee beans and the upper part is the jug top for the brewed espresso with pouring spout. The top of the pot has a fine sieve on the underside which filters the coffee from the coffee grounds.

The principle of the moka pot is the reverse of that of a filter coffee machine: whereas in filter coffee the water drips onto the coffee grounds from above, in the espresso pot the water is forced through the coffee grounds from below - an overpressure is created. The filtered coffee or espresso rises in the rising pipe and flows into the pot.

  • Use freshly ground espresso beans, to give your espresso the full aroma.

  • Put the ground coffee into the funnel insert, pressing gently.

  • Then fill the vessel with water and screw the parts of the espresso pot together.

  • Place your jug on the stovetop over medium to high heat.

This is how easy it is to prepare your espresso and enjoy the full taste. Of course, you can also use the brewed espresso as the basis for other coffee specialities such as latte, cappuccino and latte macchiato. Buy your espresso maker now only from us!
